Hicks sets range records as rifle wins at Mississippi 6171-6062

Hicks fired an 1180 out of a possible 1200 in smallbore, besting the old record of 1168, and shot a 392 out of a possible 400 in air rifle, outscoring the former record of 389, for an aggregate (combined) score of 1572.
Junior Robert Purdy shot an 1162 in smallbore and a 389 in air rifle for an aggregate of 1551, while freshman Justin Sparks fired an 1148 in smallbore and a 385 in air rifle for an aggregate of 1533. Sophomore Alex Culbertson shot an 1135 in smallbore, while freshman Brandy Boucherie fired a 380 in air rifle to complete the Racers' scoring.
For Mississippi, Jennifer Lorenzen shot an 1151 in smallbore and a 380 in air rifle for an aggregate of 1531, while Megan Sandage fired an 1145 in smallbore and a 386 in air rifle for a 1531 aggregate, and Laura Gavin shot an 1110 in smallbore and a 376 in air rifle for an aggregate of 1486. Mara Polonsky fired an 1138 in smallbore, while Samantha Leach shot a 376 in air rifle to complete Mississippi's scoring.
Murray State competes at Memphis tomorrow (Sunday) at 8 a.m. That match will be the last before the Racers host the 2004 NCAA Championships on March 12-13.
