Racers finish atop OVC standings at 9-0 with win over Tennessee-Martin

The Murray State women's tennis team finished the regular season on top of the Ohio Valley Conference with a perfect 9-0 record after beating Tennessee-Martin 5-2 in a match postponed from April 7.
Murray State (17-5, 9-0 OVC) swept the doubles matches against UTM on April 7 before rain forced the match to be postponed. The teams played singles matches today at KenLake State Resort Park.
Senior Melissa Spencer completed her final season 9-0 in OVC play after beating UTM's Eleanor Shearman 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles. Freshman Anna Lask ended the year 5-0 in OVC play with a 2-6, 6-1, 6-4 win over Jeanne De Wet at No. 2 singles, while junior Jaclyn Leeper went 7-1 in conference play with a 6-2, 7-6 win over Sari Nortje at No. 3 singles. Freshman Rachael Lask went 7-0 in OVC play with a 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 win over Jayatri Ramesh at No. 5 singles.
Jennifer Ward fell at No. 4 singles to Katrina Domela 6-3, 6-4, while Casady Pruitt lost at No. 6 singles to Ana Bakran 6-2, 3-6, 7-6.
Murray State will likely get the top seed in the OVC Championship Tournament, to be played April 16-18 at the Centennial Sportsplex in Nashville, Tenn. Tennessee Tech finished 7-0 in league play.
According to the schools' Web sites, Samford was 7-2 in league play, while Tennessee-Martin was 5-3 and Eastern Kentucky was 6-4. Eastern Illinois and Jacksonville State tied at 3-5, while Morehead State was 3-7. Austin Peay was 1-6, while Southeast Missouri was 1-7 and Tennessee State was 0-6. APSU and TSU play each other tomorrow (Tuesday).
Murray State swept all of its OVC doubles matches to go 27-0 in doubles play, while the Racers were 49-5 (.907) in OVC singles play.
