Racers improve to 5-0 in OVC with 6-1 win at Morehead State

The Murray State women's tennis team improved to a perfect 5-0 in Ohio Valley Conference play with a 6-1 win at Morehead State this afternoon.
In singles play, Melissa Spencer won at No. 1 singles over Alex Becka 6-0, 7-6, while Anna lask won at No. 3 singles over Sheenagh Stewart 6-3, 6-3. Jennifer Ward won at No. 4 singles over Georgia Vanos 6-0, 6-1, while Casady Pruitt won at No. 5 singles over Ariana gracia-Medrano 6-1, 6-0, and Tami McQueen won at No. 6 singles over Heidi Mahoney 6-0, 6-0. Jaclyn Leeper fell at No. 2 singles to Verena Baernwick in a hard-fought split-set match 2-6, 6-4, 7-6.
In doubles play, Murray State won the doubles point 3-0, as Anna Lask and Rachael Lask won at No. 1 doubles over Baernwick and Becka 9-7 in the eight-game pro set, while Leeper and Spencer won at No. 2 doubles over Gracia-Medrano and Stewart 8-1, and Pruitt and Ward won at No. 3 doubles over Mahoney and Vanos 8-0.
Murray State (13-5, 5-0 OVC) returns home to host Tennessee-Martin in a rescheduled match on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Purcell Tennis Courts.
*COURTSIDE: Murray State has yet to lose a single doubles match in OVC play through five matches. The Racers have won 74.1 percent of its doubles matches (40-14) and 71 percent of its singles matches (76-31) in its 18 dual matches this season.
In singles, freshman Anna Lask leads the way with a 19-6 (.760) dual-match record, while twin sister Rachael Lask is right behind her at 20-8 (.714). Freshman Casady Pruitt is 17-8 (.680) in singles play thus far, while junior Jennifer Ward is 18-9 (.667), having a 10-match win streak snapped at Eastern Kentucky on Friday. Junior Jaclyn Leeper had an 11-match win string snapped this afternoon in Morehead.
In doubles play, Pruitt and Ward are 24-5 (.828) in dual-match play, having won their last eight matches and 16 of their last 18, while the Lasks have won five straight and 12 of their last 13 matches, holding a 23-8 (.742) record.
