Spencer goes 4-0 this week, earns OVC women's tennis honor

Senior Melissa Spencer was named the Ohio Valley Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week, according to a release issued today by the league office.
Spencer went 2-0 at No. 1 singles this week, winning in split sets over Eastern Kentucky's Hannah Bartsch and in straight sets over Morehead State's Alex Becka, both on the road.
The Roswell, Ga., native and teammate Jaclyn Leeper won at No. 1 doubles against EKU's Lindsay Herrera and Terin Roof and at No. 2 doubles over Morehead State's Ariana Gracia-Medrano and Sheenagh Stewart.
Spencer is 16-13 as the Racers' No. 1 singles player, and she and Leeper are 17-12 in doubles this season. Spencer is tied with Eastern Illinois's Becky Brunner at 5-0 in OVC singles play. The two will meet in Murray tomorrow (Thursday).
Spencer and Leeper are tied for first in No. 1 doubles at 4-0 with Tennessee Tech's Alet Boonzaaler and Marina Tasheva. Murray State and Tennessee Tech will not meet this year during the regular season.
Murray State is 13-5 overall, 5-0 in OVC play going into today's match against OVC rival Tennessee-Martin. The Racers are tied with Tennessee Tech for first place in the OVC.
