Racers Sweep Through EIU To Move To 6-0 In OVC Action

The Murray State women's tennis team improved to 6-0 in Ohio Valley Conference play with a dominating 7-0 win over Eastern Illinois today at the Purcell Tennis Courts in Murray.
In singles action, senior Melissa Spencer defeated EIU's Becky Brunner 7-6, 6-2 in No. 1 singles, while junior Jaclyn Leeper earned a commanding 6-1, 6-0 victory over Sarah Freeman. In No. 3 singles, MSU junior Jennifer Ward defeated Madina Mambetova 6-1, 6-2, while Racer freshman Rachael Lask knocked off Amber Lenfert 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 in No. 4 singles.
MSU freshman Casady Pruitt earned a 7-5, 6-3 win over Constanza Camacho in No. 5 singles, while freshman Christina Hall dispatched of the Panthers' Jill Wirtz 6-1, 6-2 in No. 6 singles.
MSU (14-5, 6-0 OVC), winners of the last three OVC championships, also swept through the doubles led by the combination of Spencer and Leeper in No. 1 doubles with an 8-3 win over Brunner and Freeman. In No. 2 doubles, the combo of sisters Anna and Rachael Lask dispatched of Mambetova and Camacho 8-1, while MSU's Pruitt and Ward teamed for an 8-5 win over Lenfert and Wirtz in No. 3 doubles.
The Racers continue their full load of competition this week as they host Samford on Friday at 2:30 p.m. and Jacksonville State on Saturday at 9 a.m. The conclusion of the Tennessee-Martin match will be the final regular-season competition prior to the OVC Championship on April 16-18.
