Early on, it was apparent that Ashley Nichole Hayes was going to have an excellent game. She was very active on the boards, pulling down 11 on the night, and a putback of her own miss two minutes into the game gave the Lady Racers a 7-4 advantage.
The Lady Racers quickly gained control of the contest with a 15-4 run that began with MSU trailing 12-11 with 15:12 remaining in the first half. Hayes hit a three for a 16-12 lead, then after a Goldstar turnover, Paige Guffey hit another three for an eight-point MSU lead. When Alaina Lee scored in transition on a jumper, the Lady Racers enjoyed a 10-point lead 26-16 halfway through the opening period.
Hayes ended the night with 23 points on 8-for-16 shooting in 31 minutes.
Erica Gordian scored seven straight points on two inside hoops and a three-pointer to push the MSU lead to 14, 35-21, with 7:10 left in the half. Hayes ended the half with 15 points in 15 minutes of playing time.
The Lady Racers led 56-36 at the break after closing the half on a 30-20 run, out-rebounding Goldstar 26-16.
The second half started with Jill Fulkerson hitting back-to-back threes for a 70-47 Murray State lead with 15:00 left in the game.
They cruised to the victory, their second in the exhibition season.
After Hayes' 23 points, the Racers saw Gordian score 19, and Paige Guffey put in 13.
The Lady Racers owned the boards to a 60-44 advantage, led by Amber Guffey's 12 and Hayes' 11. Gerraca Matthews grabbed seven rebounds, while Gordian and Ashley Brooke Hayes had six.
Guffey also had a co-game-high seven assists, while Lee had five and Ashley Brooke Hayes had four.
Murray State was 21-for-26 from the line (80.9 percent), led by Ashley Nichole Hayes' 7-for-9 night. Gordian and Guffey each went 4-for-4, while Paige Guffey went 4-for-5.
The Lady Racers open the regular season Nov. 19 at home against Ball State at 7:30 p.m. at the Regional Special Events Center.
