Jill Fulkerson joins the Lady Racers coaching staff as a student assistant coach after serving four years with the Navy and Gold. She will become the director of basketball operations when she graduates in December.
Fulkerson played in 90 games for Murray State and showed herself to be a keen shot from beyond the arc, hitting 35.3 percent of her three-point attempts. She also hit 46.4 percent of her shots inside the arc and 85.7 percent of her free-throw attempts.
As a guard, she had a 1.20 assist-to-turnover ratio, averaging 3.2 assists per 40 minutes.
Perhaps the highlight of her career came on Dec. 4, 2004, when she hit the game-winning basket at Arkansas-Little Rock with four seconds left, completing a 13-point Lady Racer comeback over the last 98 seconds of the game.
She scored a career-high 15 points in the final home game of her career against Tennessee-Martin on Feb. 25, 2006. Prior to that, her career-high was 12 points, which came in only 16 minutes of play against Samford in the 2004-05 season.
Fulkerson was an academic standout as well, earning Ohio Valley Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll accolades in 2004-05 and 2005-06 and Dean’s List honors in Spring 2004.
Prior to playing at MSU, she was a standout at Ohio County High School, where she scored 1,991 career points, averaging 16.06 points per game and ranking second all-time at OCHS.
She helped the Eagles to a four-year combined record of 83-41 (.669), also posting career averages of 5.2 assists per game, 4.85 rebounds per game and 2.44 steals per game, hitting 84.4 percent of her free-throw attempts during her four-year tenure.
She graduated from Ohio County High School in 2001 ranked 33rd in a class of 357.
Fulkerson will complete her degree in physical education and health in December 2006, upon completion of her student teaching. She would like to pursue a career in coaching.
