Racers fall to national power UAF

The Nanooks took both categories in the match, winning the smallbore competition 2352-2320 and taking the air rifle competition 2369-2328.
For Murray State Gold, sophomore Cameron Hicks had a 586 in air rifle out of a possible 600 and a 581 in smallbore out of a possible 600 for an aggregate (combined) score of 1167. Freshman Bryant Wallizer had a 588 in air rifle and a 579 in smallbore for an aggregate of 1167. Junior Josiah Brooks had a 572 in air rifle and a 581 in smallbore for an aggregate of 1153.
Sophomore Dan Belluzzo had a 579 in smallbore, while senior Alex Culbertson had a 572 in smallbore to complete Murray State's team shooting.
Individually, freshman Dan Taylor had a 573 in air rifle and a 560 in smallbore for an aggregate of 1133, while freshman Joe Shane had a 542 in air rifle and a 565 in smallbore for an aggregate of 1107.
Wallizer had perfect 100s in two of his 12 targets (six each for air rifle and smallbore) -- both in air rifle -- while Hicks and Brooks each had a 100 in smallbore and Culbertson had a 100 in air rifle.
For Murray State Blue, freshman Kevin Witbrodt had 579 in air rifle and 579 in smallbore for an aggregate of 1158. Senior Brandy Boucherie had a 562 in air rifle and a 575 in smallbore for an aggregate of 1137, while freshman Erica Meece had a 569 in air rifle and a 565 in smallbore for an aggregate of 1134.
Belluzzo had a 562 in air rifle, while Culbertson had a 573 in smallbore.
For Alaska-Fairbanks, Matt Rawlings had a 598 in air rifle and a 596 in smallbore for an aggregate of 1194 out of a possible 1200. Jamie Beyerle had a 593 in air rifle and a 586 in smallbore for an aggregate of 1189, while Christian Lejon had a 588 in air rifle and a 584 in smallbore for an aggregate of 1172.
Matthias Dierolf had a 590 in air rifle, while Levi Guerts had a 586 in smallbore to complete the scoring for UAF.
Individually, Kim Harris had a 564 in air rifle and a 580 in smallbore for an aggregate of 1144. Guerts had a 587 in air rifle, while Dierolf had a 588 in smallbore.
Rawlings scored eight 100s -- four in air rifle, four in smallbore -- while Beyerle had five, three in smallbore and two in air rifle. Lejon had one 100 in smallbore, while Geurts had a 100 in smallbore and one in air rifle and Dierolf had a 100 in air rifle.
"We shot very well," said MSU coach Ann Proctor. "Everyone had a good day; there were a lot of good scores shot. This also can count as one of our qualifying matches towards the NCAA competition. We can use one of our home matches and two of our away matches factored into going to the NCAA Championships along with the regional qualifier."
Murray State next competes on Jan. 22 at the Newkirk Invitational at Cookeville, Tenn.
