The Collegiate Rifle Coaches Association has recognized five Murray State rifle shooters for their excellence in the classroom and on the range, awarding them with the CRCA All-Academic Award. To qualify for the award, all participants must have a 3.2 or better grade-point average and be a varsity letterwinner.
The five Racers awarded with the honor were senior Robert Purdy from Gainesville, Texas; junior Alex Culbertson from Salem, Ore.; sophomore Brandy Boucherie from Henderson, Ky.; sophomore Josiah Brooks from Creston, Wash.; and freshman Cameron Hicks from Roy, Wash.
"I'm very proud of our shooters receiving the CRCA All-Academic awards," second-year Murray State rifle coach Ann Proctor said. "Five of our seven team members have been recognized, which illustrates that they are not only committed athletes, but outstanding students."
The Murray State rifle team, once ranked as high as seventh in the nation this season, is coming off a third-place finish in the 2005 OxReilly Ohio Valley Conference Rifle Championships, finishing behind second-place Tennessee Tech and champion Jacksonville State, the eventual national runner-up.
