Women's Tennis Makes Three Semifinal And One Finals Appearance At UTC Fall Classic

Murray State University's women's tennis team made three semifinal appearances and one final appearance at this weekend's 2005 University of Tennessee-Chattanooga Steve Baras Fall Tennis Classic in Chattanooga, Tenn. The doubles team of Adriana Alvarez and Tami McQueen advanced to the finals of the "B" doubles bracket.
McQueen also advanced to the semifinals of the "C" singles bracket while Rachael Lask won her way to the semifinals of the "A" singles consolation bracket.
Alvarez and McQueen defeated UNC Asheville's Lindsay Boykin and Rachel Poole, 8-3, in the "B" doubles round of 16. In the quarterfinals the Racers got a free pass when their opponents withdrew. The MSU team beat Jacksonville State's Adriana Borda and Alexandra Georgakopoulas, 8-4, in the semifinals. Alvarez and McQueen's run ended against Jacksonville State's Layla Abby and Eloach Lopes in the finals, falling by a score of 8-3.
After losing in three sets in the "A" singles round of 16, Lask beat Christina Hall of Western Kentucky University, 6-4 and 6-4, in the quarterfinals of the consolation bracket. The junior's run ended against number one seed Marina Tasheva of Tennessee Tech in the semifinals, losing 6-0 and 7-5.
McQueen lost just five games on her way to the "C" singles semifinals. The senior beat Evgnia Yartseva from Tennessee Tech in the round of 16 by a score of 6-3 and 6-0. In the quarterfinals, McQueen handed Olivia Ellis a 6-2 and 6-0 defeat. Her run ended against Pooja Kommireddi of Middle Tennessee State, falling in the semifinals 6-1 and 7-6(5).
Next up for the Racers is a trip to Bloomington, Ind., to participate in the Hoosier Classic hosted by Indiana University on Sept. 30 to Oct. 2.
