The Murray State men's cross country team opened its 2005 season at the Belmont Cross Country Opener on Friday. The Racers placed ninth out of 11 teams.
Leading the way for MSU was junior John Gorey, who finished the 5-kilometer (3.1-mile) course in a time of 16 minutes, 8.51 seconds, placing 35th out of the 97 runners.
Freshman Melvin Finley placed 56th with a time of 17:07.41, while freshman Mitchell Sharber was 58th with a time of 17:09.09. Freshman Tommy Moore was 73rd with a time of 18:03.58, while freshman Frankie Ramos was 77th with a time of 18:23.23.
Murray State will next compete at the Memphis Twilight Invitational on Saturday.
