The Murray State women's volleyball team came in at No. 7 in this week's regional ranking, the highest ranking ever for Murray State.
The RichKern.com/AVCA Division I Regional Computer Index is issued every Thursday by the American Volleyball Coaches Association, and is based on the Rich Kern Percentage Index (RKPI), which mimics the NCAA's Rating Percentage Index (RPI). The teams are ranked each week by region, based on their RKPI. During the Racers' OVC championship season of 2003, the AVCA did not issue a regional ranking.
There are eight Division I regions, each with four conferences. The Midwest Region consists of the Ohio Valley Conference, Conference USA, the Horizon League and the Southwestern Athletic Conference.
Murray State is ranked 104th on the Division I RKPI list out of the 311 Division I volleyball schools.
OVC leader Jacksonville State is ranked fifth in the region, while Morehead State fell to No. 8. Tennessee State is No. 10 this week, while Southeast Missouri State is 14th and Eastern Kentucky is No. 15. Memphis, a non-conference opponent for Murray State this season, is ranked second, while Wisconsin-Milwaukee tops the Midwest Region ranking.
The Racers were ranked 11th in the first regional ranking this season, issued Sept. 28. After its loss to Tennessee State on Sept. 30, MSU fell to 13th in the Oct. 5 poll, then moved up to 10th last week.
Murray State visits OVC rival Tennessee Tech on Saturday at 2 p.m.
