Volleyball Finally Comes Home

The Murray State women's volleyball team will play its home opener on Friday against Ohio Valley Conference co-leader Morehead State, beginning a four-match home stretch at Racer Arena.
The Racers (11-3, 3-1 OVC) are off to their best start ever, despite spending the entire month of September on the road. Murray State is ranked first in the nation in digs per game for the third straight week and the fourth week overall, with 22.65 digs per game this week. Sophomore libero Heather Norris also remains among the top 30 nationally, ranked 14th this week with 5.92 digs per game. This marks the second straight week for Norris to be ranked nationally in digs per game, the third week overall.
Murray State opens its home schedule on Friday at 7 p.m. against Morehead State (14-6, 4-0 OVC). The Lady Eagles hold a 26-22 lead in the series, but the Racers are 13-6 against Morehead in Racer Arena and have won six of the last eight meetings overall.
Murray State ranks first in the conference with 22.65 digs per game, 1.37 solo blocks per game and 45.04 attacks per game. The Racers rank second in fewest attack errors at 5.61 per game and fewest aces allowed, at 1.30 per game. Murray State is fourth in the OVC wtih 14.63 kills per game, fifth with an attack percentage of .200 and third with an opponent attack percentage of .170.
Senior Katie Kemezys is fourth in the OVC with 4.13 points per game and an attack percentage of .320. She is eighth with 0.98 blocks per game and ninth with 3.26 kills per game. Senior Holly Jansen is seventh with 3.37 kills per game and 3.89 points per game. Norris is first in the OVC with 5.92 digs per game, while freshman Cassie Chesney is second in the league with 12.26 assists per game. Sophomore Alison Mugler is seventh in the conference with 4.32 digs per game.
Morehead State ranks second in the OVC with 15.38 kills per game and 19.02 points per game, and fourth with an attack percentage of .204.
Murray State hosts Eastern Kentucky on Saturday at 2 p.m. The Racers conclude its four-match homestand next weekend, hosting Southeast Missouri State on Oct. 13 at 7 p.m. and Eastern Illinois on Oct. 14 at 2 p.m. All matches are played in Racer Arena, and admission is free.
