Rifle Places Second At Gamecock Invitational

The Murray State rifle team placed second out of eight teams at the Gamecock Invitational on Saturday, held in Jacksonville, Ala. The tournament closed out the fall portion of the rifle team's schedule.
Murray State shot a 2327 out of a possible 2400 in air rifle and a 2273 out of a possible 2400 in smallbore for an aggregate (combined) score of 4600 out of a possible 4800.
Ohio Valley Conference rival and tournament host Jacksonville State won the event with an aggregate of 4677, the highest score for a Murray State opponent thus far this season. Memphis was third at 4588, while Tennessee Tech was fourth at 4570. Four schools competed in air rifle only: Birmingham-Southern scored a 2250, while Austin Peay had a 2143, Alabama-Birmingham had a 2033 and Mercer had a 1949.
For Murray State (23-7, 10-5 OVC), Cameron Hicks had a 584 out of a possible 600 in air rifle and a 573 out of a possible 600 in smallbore for an aggregate of 1157, while Bryant Wallizer fired a 585 in air rifle and a 570 in smallbore for an aggregate of 1155. Dan Belluzzo shot a 580 in air rifle and a 574 in smallbore for an aggregate of 1154, while Kevin Witbrodt had a 578 in air rifle and a 556 in smallbore for an aggregate of 1134.
Individually, Brandy Boucherie had a 584 in air rifle and a 565 in smallbore for an aggregate of 1149, while Harley Jette had a 571 in air rifle and a 545 in smallbore for an aggregate of 1116.
Murray State returns to action on Jan. 21, when the Racers compete at the Newkirk Invitational at Cookeville, Tenn.
