Three members of the Murray State rifle team -- senior Brandy Boucherie, sophomore Bryant Wallizer and freshman Kasey Meyer -- and coach Morgan Hicks will compete this weekend at an international qualifier at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.
The competition will feature many of the top collegiate teams in the nation this Friday through Sunday as shooters vie to qualify in air rifle for the Pan American Games as well as for World Cup competition.
Teams from NCAA rifle powers such as Ohio Valley Conference member Jacksonville State, Alaska-Fairbanks, Nebraska, Kentucky and Army will be in attendance. The event is hosted by USA Shooting.
"This is a stepping stone to the Olympics," said Hicks, an Olympian (2004) and two-time World Cup competitor. "This allows us to take part in a larger competition instead of the usual school-vs.-school, and there is individual competition, which will help our athletes gain more experience and helps us as a team. It's great that they are taking the invitation and going out there and representing Murray State."
