Racers place first in smallbore, finish second in NCAA Sectional

Murray State fired a 2334 out of a possible 2400 in smallbore and had a 2335 out of a possible 2400 in air rifle for an aggregate (combined) score of 4669, placing second among the five teams participating.
Kentucky placed first with an aggregate of 4674, and had the best air rifle score at 2346. Memphis was third at 4612, while Tennessee-Martin was fourth at 4589 and West Virginia was fifth at 4585.
Individually, freshman Bryant Wallizer fired a 585 out of a possible 600 in smallbore and a 591 out of a possible 600 in air rifle for an aggregate of 1176. Sophomore Cameron Hicks shot a 583 in smallbore and a 591 in air rifle for an aggregate of 1174, while junior Josiah Brooks fired a 580 in smallbore and a 570 in air rifle for an aggregate of 1150. Sophomore Dan Belluzzo shot a 586 in smallbore, while senior Alex Culbertson fired a 583 in air rifle to complete the MSU scoring.
Murray State will next compete in the Ohio Valley Conference Championships, to be hosted by Tennessee-Martin on Feb. 18-19. The NCAA Championships will be held in Colorado Springs, Colo., on March 10-11. Teams and individuals will be selected by the NCAA on Feb. 21.
