Saint Louis Squeaks By Murray State 4-3

Saint Louis jumped out in front by earning the doubles point after winning all three doubles matches. Anna and Rachael Lask fell to Katerina Lozanova and Tara Grant, 8-4, at number one doubles.
The Racers recovered quickly when singles play began. Wins by Anna Lask (Louisville, Ky.), Casady Pruitt (Merrillville, Ind.) and Anne Pennington (Indianapolis, Ind.) gave Murray State a 3-1 lead and in need of just one win in the final three singles matches to claim the match victory.
Lask defeated Lozanova at number one singles in three sets. After dropping the first set 6-3, the junior from Louisville, Ky., came back to win the second set 7-6 and the third set 6-1. Pruitt made quick work of Jo Becker at number three singles, winning by a score of 6-0 and 6-1. Pennington improved to 4-0 in singles play this season after defeating Grant, 6-2 and 6-0, at number four singles.
The Billikens came back to tie the match at 3-3 when Amanda Hellberg beat Rachael Lask (Louisville, Ky.), 6-3 and 7-6, at number two singles and Rachel McCullagh took down Tami McQueen (Menlo Park, South Africa), 6-1 and 6-2, at number six singles.
That left the entire match riding on the outcome of the number five singles match, Alvarez against Renda. After losing the first set 6-2, Alvarez came back to even it up with a 6-3 win in the second set. A 6-2 victory by Renda in set number three gave the victory to Saint Louis.
The Racers will be back in action on March 4 when they travel to Oxford, Ohio, for a pair of matches. Murray State will face Miami University (Ohio) at 12 p.m., and the University of Dayton at 6:00 p.m.
