'Breds Fall At Vandy 7-1

With Vanderbilt leading 2-0 in the top of the fourth inning, the 'Breds got on the scoreboard when Austin Swain drew a one-out walk and moved to second on a passed ball. Jamie Leidolf singled up to middle, and a fielder's error allowed Swain to score to cut the Commodore lead to 2-1.
Vandy (4-4) scored two more runs in the sixth inning and three in the seventh for the final score.
Murray State was led at the plate by Brett Mullins, who went 2-for-4. Vanderbilt's Matt Meingasner and Pedro Alvarez each had two hits, with Alvarez getting a triple and three runs batted in. Meingasner scored three runs for the Commodores.
In the field, Jason Payton made a team-high seven putouts, while Payton, Leidolf, James Akin and West Harris each had two assists for the 'Breds. The Commodores' Brian Hernandez had nine putouts, while Dominic de la Osa had three assists.
On the mound, Harris (0-1) took the loss for Murray State, allowing two runs on five hits, striking out five and walking three in five innings. Ed Baust came on in the sixth, allowing five runs (four earned) on two hits, walking three in 1-1/3 innings. Marc Harmon closed out the game, allowing three hits and striking out two in 1-2/3 innings.
For Vanderbilt, Ty Davis (2-1) got the win, allowing one unearned run on four hits, striking out six and walking two in four innings. Cameron Betourne closed out the game, allowing two hits and striking out eight in five innings.
Murray State returns home to face Southern Illinois on Wednesday at 2 p.m. at MSU's Reagan Field.
