Murray State University's men's tennis team fell to Southern Illinois University, 4-3, today in Paducah, Ky. The Racers fall to 4-7 overall while the Salukis improve to 6-5 on the season.

SIU opened by winning two of the three doubles matches to earn the doubles point. Feilpe Villasenor and Sergio Sanchez defeated MSU's Fadi Zamjaoui and Dmytro Hryhorash, 8-6, at number one doubles. Andrei Bubnov and Rodrigo Lama downed Hunter Gerlach and Jeff Lester, 8-4, at number two doubles.

The lone win for the Racers came at number three doubles where Clayton Clark and Nicholas Ksiezopolski defeated Bojan Ilievski and Tomas Gonzalez 8-6.

In singles play, Murray State took care of business at the top and the bottom of the line-up, but Southern Illinois won enough in the middle to claim the team victory.

Zamjaoui took down Villasenor in straight sets at number one singles, 7-6 and 7-5. Hryhorash did the same to Lama at number two singles, 6-2 and 6-4.

The Salukis picked up wins at number three, four and five singles to clinch the match. Sanchez beat Ksiezopolski, 6-1 and 6-2, at number three singles. Bubnov downed Gerlach, 6-2 and 6-3, at number four singles. Gonzalez lost just two games on his way to a 6-0 and 6-2 win over Yuri Pompeu at number five singles.

Murray State junior Jeff Lester extended his singles winning streak to seven with a 7-6, 4-6, 10-7 win over Nick Bauer at number six singles.

The Racers will return to action on April 6 when they host Eastern Illinois University for an Ohio Valley Conference match at the Bennie Purcell Tennis Courts in Murray, Ky. The match is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
