Three Racers Earn All-Tournament Honors, Griffith Named MVP

Murray State University placed three players on the Ohio Valley Conference All-Tournament team after defeating Samford University, 74-57, in the championship game. Juniors Trey Pearson and Shawn Witherspoon along with senior Pearson Griffith were chosen to the six player all-tournament squad. Griffith also took home the tournament's most valuable player award after averaging 9.3 points, six rebounds and 3.7 blocks in three tournament games.
Witherspoon averaged 11 points, 9.3 rebounds and 2.3 steals in the Racers' three tournament games. Pearson averaged 8.7 points and 2.7 steals per game while shooting 42.9 percent from the field.
In Saturday's championship game win over the Bulldogs, Witherspoon grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds and scored nine points. Pearson came off the bench to lead the Racers with 15 points on six-of-seven shooting from the field, including three-of-four from beyond the three-point arch. Griffith finished with 11 points, five of which came during the key 16-4 Murray State run in the second half, and five rebounds.
