Eight-time All-American and Olympic shooter Morgan Hicks was named rifle coach at her alma mater, Murray State.
"It's really amazing," Hicks said. "It's something that I've been wanting to do for a long time, and I'm really excited that it's finally happened. It's a great honor, and I'm very privileged to be here."
Hicks, who finished 12th as a member of the U.S. Olympic team at the 2004 Games in Athens, Greece, earned her bachelor's degree in physical education and health from Murray State in 2004, and served as an assistant coach last season. She will earn a master's degree in secondary education this December.
She has competed internationally in the World Championships in Zagreb, Croatia, this summer and in Finland in 2002. She also competed this summer in World Cups in Munich, Germany, and Milan, Italy. She competed in the Junior Olympics four times (1998-2001), earning the smallbore championship in 2001.
Hicks was the 2004 NCAA air rifle champion. She was named All-Ohio Valley Conference in smallbore four times and in air rifle three times. She was the OVC smallbore champion in 2002, 2003 and 2004, and the conference air rifle champion in 2003 and 2004. She helped Murray State to the 2004 OVC championship, and her sweep of the individual titles in 2003 was the first such feat in league history.
Former Racer rifle coach Ann Proctor resigned to pursue a career in education in her home state of Michigan.
"We are pleased to have Morgan join our staff after four illustrious years as a student-athlete," said MSU director of athletics Allen Ward. "Her experience and expertise will help keep us among the best in the NCAA."
