Volleyball Earns CVU Honor

The Murray State volleyball team earned national recognition from The Collegiate Volleyball Update as its Deep Digging Team of the Year.
The Racers (19-8) earned this honor by leading the nation in digs with 23.48 per game, leading the No. 2 team, Texas-Arlington, by 1.61 digs per game. With 2,465 total digs, MSU repelled 48.1 percent of its opponents' attack last season.
Murray State was led by sophomore libero Heather Norris, who finished the season ranked sixth with 6.49 digs per game. Norris was named the Ohio Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Year.
In other national rankings, Murray State was 82nd in assists per game (14.14), led by freshman setter Cassie Chesney, who ranked 42nd in Division I with 12.69 assists per game. The Racers were also 91st in kills per game (15.35) and 60th in win percentage (.704).
Individually, several Racers ranked among the nation's top 300. Senior middle blocker Katie Kemezys was 147th with an attack percentage of .308 and 168th in Division I with 3.8 kills per game. Senior middle blocker Holly Jansen was 186th in the nation with 3.74 kills per game and 262nd with an attack percentage of .279.
Sophomore outside hitter Alison Mugler was 157th in the nation with 4.33 digs per game, while Chesney was 231st with 3.88 digs per game and junior outside hitter Tara DeMage was 269th with 3.69 digs per game.
