
Murray State Battles But Drops 63-52 Game At TTU

The Murray State Racers battled gamely but lost a 63-52 game at Tennessee Tech in
The Racers jumped out to a 14-8 lead by playing some tight defense and getting some easy baskets off of steals. Ed Horton and Ray George both scored easy baskets for a six-point lead less than five minutes into the contest
Tech cut the lead to one before Tyler Holloway hit a running jumper on a fast break for an 18-15 lead with 6:55 left in the half.
The Golden Eagles took a brief lead with 25 seconds left in the half, but Bruce Carter's two free throws tied the game 28-28 at the half.
MSU performed at a high level when it came to guarding TTU's excellent trio of scorers,
Shawn Witherspoon had a inspiring opening half with eight points and five rebounds, he also had half of the Racers six steals.
Tech opened the second half with a 6-0 run with all the points from McKenzie.
Holloway drilled his first three of the game moments later to cut the Tech lead to three with 17:16 left in the game.
Tech pushed their lead to 43-34 with 12:13 remaining.
MSU fell behind by as many as 12 with 12:06 left, but battled to cut the lead to 50-42 on a Bruce Carter put back with 8:07 left. The Tech lead was five when Holloway hit another three with 6:50 left.
Tech pushed the lead back to nine on a Belton Rivers three-pointer with 3:08 left, MSU battled back to cut the lead to seven with 1:34 left on a Carter baseline drive but could not get any closer.
Tyler Holloway led the way for MSU with 14 points on 6-11 shooting (2-5 from three-point range).
The Racers had won three straight games in the rebounding category, but were overwhelmed by Tech 43-32.
GAME NOTES:
Witherspoon scored nine points tonight and now has 936 career points and is 64 from joining the MSU 1,000-Point Club.
