
Lady Racers Win Seventh Straight, 83-55 at TSU

After playing a lackluster first half, the Lady Racers responded in the second half, outscoring host Tennessee State 50-27 in the latter period en route to the 83-55 win. The decision was the seventh straight win for MSU -- one short of the school record -- and kept the Lady Racers undefeated in Ohio Valley Conference play.
"We didn't play the same game that got us to this point," said MSU head coach Joi Felton. "We talked about that at halftime, and came out and played like we can. We really stepped it up in the second half."
In that second half, MSU shot 57.1 percent (20-for-35), while Tennessee State shot 31.4 percent (11-for-35).
Murray State (9-3, 6-0 OVC) led 33-28 at halftime, and had just a 42-39 lead early in the second half before going on an 18-6 run over the next 6:34 to take a commanding 60-45 lead with 9:04 left in the game.
Senior forward Joi Scott got her fifth double-double of the season with 23 points and 13 rebounds, equaling her season-high for rebounds, Scott was 11-for-17 from the field, but scored 15 second-half points on 7-for-10 shooting. Scott also had a game-high three blocked shots and a co-game-high three steals.
Freshman guard/forward Jenny Petrie put in 17 points off the bench. Junior guiard Alaina Lee added 15 points and five rebounds, while sophomore guard Amber Guffey had 13 points and a game-high seven assists, while sophomore forward Ashley Nichole Hayes had 11 points and nine rebounds.
Tennessee State (3-9, 1-3 OVC) was paced by 19 points from Obiageli Okafor to go with a team-high eight rebounds. Tamira Rumph added 11 points and three steals for the Lady Tigers, while Meesha Jackson and Jheri Booker each had seven boards. Kendra Appling and Kierra Goodwin each had a team-high four assists for TSU.
Murray State hosts Southeast Missouri (10-4, 5-1 OVC) on Monday at 5:15 p.m. in the Regional Special Events Center.
