Rifle Wins Season-Opening Match

The Murray State rifle team opened its 2007-08 season with a win in a shoulder-to-shoulder (dual) match at Tennessee-Martin on Saturday.
Murray State shot a 2271 out of a possible 2400 in air rifle and a 2255 out of a possible 2400 in smallbore for an aggregate (combined) score of 4526 out of a possible 4800. Tennessee-Martin's Mixed team shot a 2246 in air rifle and a 2190 in smallbore for an aggregate of 4436, while the Tennessee-Martin Women's team fired a 2231 in air rifle and a 2142 in smallbore for an aggregate of 4373.
Murray State was led by junior Kevin Witbrodt, who had a match-high 581 out of a possible 600 in smallbore and a 577 out of a possible 600 in air rifle for an aggregate of 1158. Senior Cameron Hicks fired a 573 in air rifle and a 569 in smallbore for an aggregate of 1142, while senior Dan Belluzzo shot a 570 in air rifle and a 558 in smallbore for an aggregate of 1128. Junior Erica Meece shot a 551 in air rifle, while sophomore Kasey Meyer fired a 547 in smallbore to round out the Racers' scoring.
Individually, Meyer shot a 572 in air rifle, while Meece fired a 537 in smallbore. Sophomore Harley Jette fired a 559 in air rifle and a 556 in smallbore.
For UTM Mixed, Heather Tillson fired a match-high aggregate of 1162, shooting a 585 in air rifle and a 577 in smallbore. Rob Burrows had a 567 in air rifle and a 562 in smallbore for an aggregate of 1129, while Nick Combs had a 552 in air rifle and a 543 in smallbore for an aggregate of 1095 and Kyle Beauchamp had a 542 in air rifle and a 508 in smallbore for an aggregate of 1050. Individually, Cody Perkins shot a 476 in air rifle.
For UTM Women, Kellie Zurowski shot a 577 in air rifle and a 572 in smallbore for an aggregate of 1149. Wrenda Curd had a 551 in air rifle and a 537 in smallbore for an aggregate of 1088, while Kaitlin Chaffin had a 554 in air rifle and a 514 in smallbore for an aggregate of 1068, and Emily Yocum had a 549 in air rifle and a 519 in smallbore for an aggregate of 1068.
Murray State will take part in the Memphis Tiger Open on Saturday, then will shoot in the Ole Miss Invitational on Sunday.
