Rifle Places Eighth; Wallizer, Hicks Are All-Americans

The Murray State rifle team placed eighth at the NCAA Championships, held at Fairbanks, Alaska, on Friday and Saturday.
Sophomore Bryant Wallizer earned All-American Second Team honors in air rifle, while junior Cameron Hicks was named All-American Second Team in smallbore.
The Racers shot a 2303 out of a possible 2400 in air rifle to finish with an aggregate (air rifle and smallbore combined) of 4565 out of a possible 4800.
Host Alaska-Fairbanks had a 2354 in air rifle for an aggregate score of 4662, taking its ninth rifle Championships. Army fired a 2337 in air rifle and placed second with an aggregate of 4644. Ohio Valley Conference member Jacksonville State had a 2349 in air rifle and a third-place aggregate of 4639, while Kentucky had a 2337 in air rifle and a fourth-place aggregate of 4636.
Nebraska had a 2336 in air rifle, while Texas Christian fired a 2330. Both teams tied for fifth with an aggregate of 4623. Navy shot a 2336 in air rifle and had a seventh-place aggregate of 4589.
Individually in air rifle, Wallizer fired a 586 out of a possible 600, while Hicks shot a 576. Dan Belluzzo fired a 571, while Brandy Boucherie shot a 570.
In the Championships, Wallizer had an aggregate of 1157 out of a possible 1200, while Hicks had an 1143 and Belluzzo had an 1130.
This season marked the unprecedented 27th time for Murray State to take part in the NCAA Championships, the 28th to be hosted by the NCAA. MSU won NCAA titles in 1985 and 1987.
