Murray State's women's tennis team evened up its Ohio Valley Conference record with a shutout of Jacksonville State today in Jacksonville, Ala. The Racers improve to 4-5 overall and 1-1 in the OVC after beating JSU 7-0. The Gamecocks fall to 7-6 on the season and 3-3 in league play.
Murray State was able to claim the doubles point with a win at No. 1 doubles and a close win at No. 3 doubles. Anna and Rachael Lask knocked out Erin Higgs and Babette Lombardo, 8-3, at No. 1. Freshmen Lynsey Bochenek and Angela McGahee edged Kimberly Ferris and Laura Lundy, 9-7, at No. 3.
Jacksonville State took the No. 2 doubles match. Kristen Fuller and Eloah Lopes beat the MSU duo of Lyndsay Ottosen and Casady Pruitt, 8-5.
The Racers were a perfect 6-for-6 in singles play, all of which were straight set victories. Anna Lask took down Higgs, 6-4 and 6-2, at No. 1 singles. Pruitt beat Ferris, 6-2 and 6-2, at No. 3 singles. McGahee edged Lombardo 7-5 in the first set and then did not lose a single game in a 6-0 second set victory.
Bochenek and Ottosen earned wins at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively.
Next up for the Racers is a trip to Tempe, Ariz., for the Sun Devil Invitational on March 22-24. The event includes Murray State, Kansas and DePaul.
