Sophomore Bryant Wallizer took fourth in the men's air rifle competition at the 2007 USA Shooting Junior Olympic National Championships, held March 7-24 at the U.S. Olympic Complex in Colorado Springs, Colo. Freshman Kasey Meyer finished in 10th place, tying for eighth, but taking 10th on the tie-breaker.
Wallizer, an All-American in air rifle, shot an 1179 out of a possible 1200, tying for third place, but taking fourth on the tie-breaker. Meyer fired an 1168 in the competition.
"This is really exciting," said MSU coach Morgan Hicks. "I am proud of how well our young shooters did here. It says a lot about our program, and bodes well for Racer rifle for years to come."
Some 273 athletes took part in the 17-day event, living, training and competing alongside U.S. Olympic Team athletes and hopefuls. Athletes from 46 states earned a spot in the competition based on their performances in state qualifiers. The first- and second-place finishers in air rifle, smallbore and pistol each earned a place on their respective National Development Teams.
Hicks was the 2001 National Junior Olympics smallbore champion and competed in the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece.
