
Grand Slam Sinks 'Breds In The 10th

Murray State broke a 3-3 tie when Tyler Pittman led off the 10th inning with a double and scored on Jamie Leidolf's single to put the Thoroughbreds ahead 4-3, but Samford catcher Jospeh Ballew hit a grand slam home run to give the host Bulldogs the win, 7-4.
For the third straight game, Muray State (5-16, 2-1 OVC) scored in the first inning, but Samford (12-13, 1-2 OVC) tied the game in the the third. MSU scored a run in the fourth, but the Bulldogs plated two in the bottom half of the inning to take a 3-2 lead, their first of the series. Murray State tied it with a run in the sixth at 3-3 before the game was decided in the 10th.
Pittman went 3-for-4 with a double, a triple, two runs and a run batted in, while James Akin and Justin Yount each went 2-for-5.
Drew Leeper (0-2, 0-1 OVC) took the loss, allowing four runs (three earned) on two hits, walking four in 2-1/3 innings. Bryan Baldini started for the 'Breds, allowing three runs on four hits, striking out two and walking four in seven innings.
The 'Breds are back at home Tuesday to host Belmont at 2 p.m. at Reagan Field and Wednesday also at 2 p.m. against Louisville. Live Stats will be available for both games through the official Web site for MSU athletics, www.GoRacers.com.
