Rifle In Seventh After Smallbore At NCAA

The Murray State rifle team is in seventh place after the smallbore competition at the NCAA Championships, being held in Fairbanks, Alaska. The Championships will conclude on Saturday with the air rifle competition.
The Racers scored a 2262 out of a possible 2400 in smallbore on Friday. Bryant Wallizer led MSU with a 571 out of a possible 600, while Cameron Hicks had a 567, Kevin Witbrodt had a 565 and Dan Belluzzo had a 559.
Host Alaska-Fairbanks led the team competition with a 2308. Army was right behind with a 2307, followed by Kentucky at 2299, Texas Christian at 2293, Jacksonville State at 2291, Nebraska at 2287, MSU at 2262 and Navy at 2253.
Hicks was one of 10 shooters to shoot a perfect 100 on one of his targets. Hicks' score also included a 99 and a 98 among his six smallbore targets.
Murray State is seeking its fourth national collegiate title, as the Racers won the NRA collegiate title in 1978 and NCAA titles in 1985 and 1987. The Racers are competing in their unprecedented 27th NCAA Championships. This season marks the 28th year that the NCAA has sponsored a rifle championship.
