Anna Lask broke another school record and Murray State's women's tennis team ran its winning streak to eight matches with a 4-3 win over the University of Tennessee-Martin today in Martin, Tenn. With her victory at No. 1 doubles, Lask broke MSU's career doubles wins record, less than two weeks after breaking the school record for combined singles and doubles wins.
The Racers improve to 6-1 in the Ohio Valley Conference and 11-5 overall. The Skyhawks fall to 10-4 on the season and 6-2 against league opponents.
Lask raised her career doubles wins total to 101 when she and twin sister Rachael Lask, defeated Ernestine Koornhof and Elizma Schoonees, 8-6, at No. 1 doubles.
Anna Lask now stands 101-32 in doubles matches during her career. April Horning (1980-84) was 100-44 during her career.
With the doubles point in hand, the Racers needed wins in three of the six singles matches to claim the team victory. They got just what they needed.
Anna Lask and Rachael Lask cruised to wins at No. 1 and No. 2 singles respectively. Anna Lask beat Sara Leavy 6-2 and 6-0. Rachael Lask lost just a single game on her way to a 6-0 and 6-1 victory over Koornhof.
MSU also claimed victory at the No. 6 spot where Lyndsay Ottosen beat Gunn, 6-2 and 6-0.
UTM swept the matches in the middle of the line-up. Schoonees beat Casady Pruitt, 6-2 and 7-5, at No. 3 singles. Wahl edged McGahee in three sets, 6-2, 6-7 and 15-13, at No. 4 singles.
Belisa De Brito beat Bochenek 7-6 (7-5) and 6-4 at No. 5 singles.
The Racers will play their fourth match in five days on Tuesday when they host Austin Peay at the Bennie Purcell Tennis Courts on the MSU campus. The match will begin at 2:30 p.m.
