Hicks, Wallizer Place At USA Shooting Nationals

Murray State rifle coach Morgan Hicks and 2006-07 Racer rifler Bryant Wallizer competed in the championship rounds at the USA Shooting Rifle and Pistol National Championships, held last week at Fort Benning, Ga.
Hicks tied for second in the 50-meter three-position competition with an 1146 out of a possible 1200, placing her in the eight-shooter championship round. She fired a 92.7 final-round score for a total of 1238.7, finishing sixth overall. Brandy Boucherie, who also shot on last year's team, finished in 39th in the 68-shooter event with an1107.
Wallizer fired an 1167 out of a possible 1200 in the 10-meter men's air rifle, placing him in 18th place in the 76-shooter event, but placing him in sixth in the junior division, qualifying him for the eight-shooter championship round in that event. He fired a 98.1 final-round score to finish in eight place with a total of 1265.1.
In other competitions at the Nationals, Hicks placed 13th in the 61-shooter 50-meter women's prone competition with an 1166 out of a possible 1200, while Boucherie was tied for 22nd with an 1157. In the 85-shooter men's prone competition, Wallizer shot an 1147 out of a possible 1200, placing him tied for 29th in the 45-shooter junior division and 63rd overall.
In the junior men's grand championship, Wallizer placed 14th out of 44 shooters with an overall score of 4554 out of a possible 4800.
