The Murray State volleyball team begins its 2007 campaign this weekend at the Mississippi State Microtel Classic. The Racers begin play on Friday at 7 p.m. against Arkansas-Little Rock, then on Saturday, face host Mississippi State at 10 a.m., then Clemson at 4 p.m.
Live Stats of Murray State's matches will be available through the volleyball schedule page at GoRacers.com.
Murray State returns six players from last year's roster of 13. Among those six returnees are five of the starting seven in last year's Racer lineup.
"This year, those matches will be a scrimmage time for us," said Racer head coach David Schwepker. "When you've only got nine girls, you don't have much scrimmaging going on in practice. Last year, we had enough for two teams, so we could scrimmage and work on game situations.
"I'm not taking those teams lightly, but we have to use that time, basically, for our scrimmage. That's our time to get in there and see what works. When we get to the OVC, it's going to be tough. I want to win every match I'm in, but I really want to win those three matches in the tournament at the end of the year. So, we need to do whatever we have to do to prepare for that outcome. We just don't have enough players to scrimmage in practice, so I'm not sure how successful we'll be in those tournaments."
Murray State's first home match will be on Sept. 14, when the Racers begin Ohio Valley Conference play against Samford.
