MSU Gets 80-62 Tune-Up Victory over Indiana South Bend

The Racers jumped out to a 9-0 lead on a long bomb from Tyler Holloway, the first of four straight three-pointers at the 17:41 mark.
The Racers led by 16, 23-7, when Bruce Carter hit a three-pointer with 12:52 left in the half.
The game started with the Racers hitting their first four shots from the field, while the Titans missed on their first four attempts. The Racers were 10-of-13 (.769) to start the game, but missed their next six and endured a stretch of four minutes without a field goal but still led 28-17 when Marvin Williams scored on a rebound with 7:26 before half.
Jewuan Long scored the final basket with two seconds left to give the Racers a 45-22 lead at half time.
In the second half, the Racers lead grew to 25 on a breakaway slam-dunk by Ray George with 9:28 remaining.
The Racers shot the ball very well again in hitting 30-of-63 from the field for 47 percent. MSU was 8-of-18 from three-point range in the first half, but ended the game 9-of-26 for 34 percent after going 1-of-8 in the second half. MSU won the battle of the boards 54-20.
Danero Thomas scored 16 points to lead the Racers. Bruce Carter scored 13 points on 5-of-10 shooting, while Tyler Holloway had a perfect night going 5-of-5 including 4-of-4 from three-point land for 14 points. He also had five rebounds and four assists.

Everyone on the Racer bench got plenty of playing time in the game and from that point of view, the game was just what MSU needed.
"We wanted to play some subs tonight and help build their confidence and let them show us that they should be competing for starters minutes,” Kennedy said. “We were able to do that tonight."

MSU's free throw streak reached 17 straight when Marvin Williams made a pair with 6:53 left in the half. MSU's streak was a continuation of their 14-of-14 night against Austin Peay Jan. 10. The streak ended when Tony Easley missed at the 2:42 mark.
The Racers have won four straight at the RSEC since a Dec. 5 loss to
Tyler Holloway was 4-of-4 from three-point range tonight and now has 127 in his MSU career and in 8th place on the all-time MSU list. He passed Antoine Whelchel (2000-04) who drops to 9th place with 124. Holloway will soon catch Rick Jones (2000-04) who has 133 at 7th place. Holloway upped his career percentage to .401, which places him in 9th place.
The Racers have matched Billy Kennedy's longest winning streak of four straight.
