Although Murray State did not qualify as a team for only the second time in the 28-year history of the NCAA Championships, those three Racers did qualify as individuals based on scores in qualifying matches.
Qualifying as individuals in smallbore were: Hicks, Murray State; Witbrodt, Murray State; Michelle Bauer, University of the Sciences in Philadelphia; Michael Dickinson, Jacksonville State. Qualifying as individuals in air rifle were: Meyer, Murray State; Leslie Angeli, Kentucky; James Clark, Ohio State; Shannon Wilson, Mississippi.
"We are very pleased to have three members of our team qualify for this very selective championship," said MSU interim head coach Alan Lollar. "We are disappointed that Murray State was not one of the qualifying teams, but MSU will be well represented by these three shooters."
For the first time ever, no Ohio Valley Conference team will take part in the team competitions at the NCAA Championships. Teams that qualified include: Alaska-Fairbanks, Kentucky, Nebraska, Nevada, Texas Christian, U.S. Military Academy, U.S. Naval Academy and West Virginia.
