
Racers Out-Shoot UT Martin In Shoulder-To-Shoulder Match

The Murray State rifle team out-shot the visiting UT Martin women's team 4605-4406 in the teams' shoulder-to-shoulder match, held Monday at MSU's Pat Spurgin Rifle Range.
The Racers had a 2326 out of a possible 2400 in air rifle and a 2279 out of a possible 2400 in smallbore for an aggregate (combines) score of 4605 out of a possible 4800. UT Martin had a 2243 in air rifle and a 2163 in smallbore for an aggregate of 4406.
Kevin Witbrodt had a 578 out of a possible 600 in air rifle and a match-high 581 out of a possible 600 in smallbore for a match-high aggregate of 1159 out of a possible 1200. Dan Belluzzo followed up his outstanding scores from last week's Roger Withrow Invitational, shooting a 583 in air rifle and a 568 in smallbore for an aggregate of 1155. Cameron Hicks had a 578 in air rifle and a 570 in smallbore for an aggregate of 1148.
Kasey Meyer had a match-high 587 in air rifle, while Harley Jette had a 560 in smallbore.
For UT Martin, Kellie Zurowski had a team-high 580 in air rifle and a team-best 564 in smallbore for an aggregate of 1144. Wrenda Curd had a 558 in air rifle and a 543 in smallbore for an aggregate of 1101, while Kaitlin Chaffin had a 544 in air rifle and a 538 in smallbore for an aggregate of 1082, and Emily Yocum had a 561 in air rifle and a 518 in smallbore for an aggregate of 1079.
MSU's Erica Meece fired a 577 in air rifle, while Jette shot a 567 in air rifle, and Meyer had a 567 in smallbore, while Meece shot a 562.
Murray State and UT Martin will take part in the 2008 Ohio Valley Conference Rifle Championships, to be held Saturday at Morehead, Ky. Other schools taking part in the Championships include Jacksonville State, Tennessee Tech and host Morehead State. The Racers will then take part in an NCAA qualifier at Jacksonville State on Feb. 16, hoping to take part in the 2008 NCAA Championships, to be held March 13-14 at West Point, N.Y.
