Women?s Tennis Tabbed Fourth, Men Eighth in OVC Preseason Polls

The Murray State women's tennis team was picked to finish fourth, while the men's team was picked eighth, in the 2008 Ohio Valley Conference Preseason Tennis polls released by the conference office on Friday. The poll was voted on by the league's head coaches.
Defending regular season champions Samford (women) and Jacksonville State (men) were picked to repeat.
The women's team, which captured the 2007 OVC Tournament championship and advanced to the NCAA Tournament, received 57 points, just edging out Eastern Illinois (56) for fourth place. Samford received 77 points, followed by Eastern Kentucky (68) and UT Martin (62). Rounding out the standings were Jacksonville State in sixth place with 43 points, followed by Tennessee Tech (40), Morehead State (34), Southeast Missouri (29), Austin Peay (18) and Tennessee State (10).
The women's team opens up OVC action on March 6 at Southeast Missouri.
On the men's side, the Racers were picked eighth with 27 points. Jacksonville State lead the way with 68 points and were followed by Samford (66), Tennessee Tech (59), Eastern Kentucky (49), UT Martin (39), and Eastern Illinois and Morehead State (34). Austin Peay (17) was picked ninth and Tennessee State (11) 10th.
The men's team opens OVC action at Tennessee Tech on March 15.
