The Murray State offense only mustered four hits and one run in falling to Eastern Illinois, 4-1, in the first game of a three-game series Saturday afternoon at Johnny Reagan Field.
The Panthers (15-14, 7-3 OVC) got on the board in the first inning as they took advantage of a 'Breds fielding error and a base on balls. With two outs, Jordan Kreke blooped a single to shallow center field.
EIU added to its lead in the fourth inning as Tristan Facer delivered a two-run shot over the scoreboard in left center and a third run would score on the second fielding error of the day by MSU.
The 'Breds (11-16, 2-7 OVC) got a run back in the bottom of the sixth as Wes Cunningham delivered a solo home run just to the right of the batter's eye in center field.
Josh Mueller (4-3) earned the victory after allowing just one run on three hits and nine strikeouts over six innings. Chris Craycraft (3-2) took the loss after giving up four runs, two earned, on five hits and seven strikeouts. Anthony Stacy was strong out of the bullpen as he allowed two hits over three scoreless innings.
The two teams play the second game of the doubleheader approximately 30 minutes after the completion of the first game.
