Alvarez Named All-OVC Second Team

Junior Adriana Alvarez was honored today with a spot on the All-Ohio Valley Conference second team, as voted by the league's head tennis coaches.
Alvarez, from Durango, Mexico, posted a 20-11 overall record this season for the Racers (13-6, 7-3 OVC), improving upon her 10-11 record in 2007.
This season, Alvarez went 13-5 in dual singles matches, and 7-6 in tournament singles matches. In OVC singles play, Alvarez is 9-1, which is tied for second in the conference, and 9-1 as a No. 6 competitor, which leads the OVC. In doubles flights, Alvarez is 6-4 when partnered with Ashley Pierson so far this season.
Heading into the first round of the OVC Tournament this weekend, you might not find a player who has more momentum than Alvarez. She has won 11 of her last 12 singles matches, losing only six sets during that period, and her and Pierson have won their last three doubles competitions by a combined score of 24-4.
Murray State earned the No. 4 seed in the OVC Tournament, and will play No. 5 Tennessee-Martin on Friday at 2 p.m. on the Tennessee State campus.
