Southeast Missouri State pushed one run across in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings to erase a two-run deficit and hand Murray State a 3-2 defeat in the second game of the doublheader Saturday afternoon at Capaha Field.
The Redhawks were able to score the game-winning run without getting a hit as Trenton Moses was hit by a pitch to start things. After a sacrifice bunt, an intentional walk put two runners on before Zachary Blemker walked to load the bases. The game ended as Nick Harris was hit by a pitch.
The 'Breds (11-12, 2-5 OVC) got on the board in the second inning as Tyler Owen single to right and Evan Pettit followed with a single to left. After a groundout advanced both runners, Kyle Tiernan delivered a two-out two-run single through the left side.
SEMO (12-10, 4-2 OVC) got a run back in the fifth as Kieran Bradford delivered a solo home run to left field, his second of the season.
The Redhawks were able to tie the game with an unearned run in the sixth inning as a 'Breds fielding error started the inning and a flare to right field put runners on the corners with two outs. Matt Wagner drove in the tieing run with a solid single back through the box.
Brad Rowland (0-1) took the loss as he gave up one run in two-thirds of an inning. He did not allow a hit, but walked two, one intentional, and hit two batters. Dustin Renfrow (3-1) earned the victory as he allowed two runs on five hits and seven strikeouts.
Daniel Calhoun threw good for the 'Breds as he allowed two runs, one earned, on five hits. He struck out four and did not walk a batter.
Pettit led the MSU offense with a pair of hits. Tiernan drove in both runs.
The two teams close out the three-game series tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m.
