Racer Rifle Competes In NCAA Qualifier

The Murray State Rifle squad wrapped up their regular season over the weekend by hosting the NCAA Regional at Spurgin Range in Stewart Stadium.

The Racers saw freshman Ashley Rose lead the way with a sixth place finish in smallbore with a total of 572, while junior Kasey Meyer had a team-best ninth place showing in air rifle with a 580.

MSU finished second in smallbore with a team total of 2269, better than Nebraska at 2262, but short of winner Jacksonville State at 2327.

The Racers were third in air rifle with a 2273, while Nebraska was second at 2322 and JSU was first at 2344.

MSU finished third overall with a total score of 4542, with Nebraska coming in second at 4584, and JSU with the top score of 4671.

Now the wait begins for the Racers as they find out if they're on the list of teams and individuals that qualified to compete in the NCAA Championships in Forth Worth, Texas the second week in March.

“I thought we finished the season on a high note with a win over Memphis last week and defeating Nebraska in smallbore this weekend,” MSU Head Coach Alan Lollar said. “Our team will be busy now, Ashley Rose will compete in the Junior Olympics in April and both Ashley and Kasey Meyer are looking competing in the USA Shooting National Championships this summer.”
