Daniel Miller's bases-clearing double in the third inning sparked a
four-run rally as Murray State completed a doubleheader sweep with a
13-3 victory over Mid-Continent Wednesday afternoon at Reagan Field.
The Cougars (8-24) got on the board in the first as Tanner Hill singled up the middle with two outs and scored when Adam Connor's fly ball to center was dropped.
MSU (16-7) tied the game in the bottom of the inning as Zach Noonan doubled to the base of the fence in right and scored on Wes Cunningham's single through the right side.
MCU added a run in the second as Sean Aldrich singled up the middle with two outs and scored on Caleb Joost's double to right center.
The Cougars pushed across another unearned run in the third as misplayed ball in right field led to the third run of the game.
The 'Breds got the offense going in the third as Cunningham started a rally with a single up the middle and went to third on Tyler Owen's single through the right side. Jason Laws plated Cunningham with a single through the right side. Following a two-out walk to Propst, Miller cleared the bases with a double to deep left center.
Kyle Tiernan added to the run total in the fourth as he started the inning with his first career home run to right center.
MSU needed only two pitches to score a run in the fifth as Jonathan Craycraft ripped the first pitch off the fence in left center for a triple and Propst followed on the next pitch with a base hit through the six hole. Miller moved Propst to third with a single to right field and Tiernan drove him in with a sacrifice bunt to third.
The 'Breds capped off their day with a five-run sixth that was started with Cunningham's solo shot to right center. Miller plated the fourth run of hte inning with a sacrifice fly to center before Tiernan deposited an RBI triple to left center.
Matt McGaha (2-0) picked up the victory as he allowed one unearned run on two hits over two innings. Josh Bowman (0-5) took the loss after giving up six runs on 10 hits over four innings.
