Women?s Tennis Takes Down Southern Illinois

Murray State sophomore Alexis Webb battled back from one set down for a three-set victory and secure a 4-3 victory for the Racers over Southern Illinois Wednesday afternoon at the Purcell Tennis Courts.

With the match tied 3-3, Webb dropped the first set in a tiebreak to Jessica Flannery at No. 4 singles, but rallied to take the next two sets 6-2, 6-4 to secure the victory and improve the Racers to 4-1 on the season.

MSU jumped out to the early advantage as they took the doubles point for the fifth time in as many matches. Lyndsay Ottosen and Adriana Alvarez got things going with an 8-6 victory at No. 2, and Angela McGahee and Anne Pennington followed with an identical 8-6 score.

The Salukis took an early lead in singles action as they picked up a pair of victories before Ottosen squared the match with a 6-2, 7-5 victory at No. 6. McGahee's 7-5, 6-2 victory at No. 2 gave the Racers a 3-2 advantage.

The Racers return to the court Friday afternoon with a 2:30 p.m. match at Memphis.
