?Breds Fall to Bison in Second Game of Doubleheader

North Dakota State jumped out to an early lead and never let Murray State put together the big inning in handing the ?Breds an 8-3 loss in the second game of doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Reagan Field.
The Bison (1-5) found their offense in the first inning as they got an RBI groundout from Eric Nutzhorn and back-to-back RBI base hits from Chad Berg and Zach Heidmann.
NDSU doubled its lead in the third as they got an RBI double from Nutzhorn, sacrifice fly from Berg and an RBI single from Heidmann.
The ?Breds (8-3) got one back in the third as Elliot Frey singled up the middle and moved to second when Wes Cunningham drew a walk. Daniel Hill drove in Frey with a two-out single to left field.
The Bison got two more runs in the fourth as Wentz delivered an RBI double to right center and Nutzhorn followed with a run-producing single to right field.
MSU rallied with two outs in the fifth to push across two runs. Kyle Tiernan started the rally with a single up the middle. After going to second on a wild pitch, Cunningham plated Tiernan with a double off the fence in left field. Hill followed with a double off the left-field fence to score Cunningham.
John Straka (1-1) picked up the victory after allowing three runs on seven hits and seven strikeouts over five innings. Lucas Allen (0-1) took the loss after allowing eight runs on 11 hits over 3.2 innings.
Hill collected two hits and drove in two runs, while Laws went 2-for-2 with a walk.
The teams will close out the four-game series tomorrow afternoon at 12 p.m. at Reagan Field.
