
Offense Powers 'Breds to 25-2 Victory Over SEMO

Murray State sophomore outfielder Zach Noonan set a school record as he
scored in six runs in Murrray State's 25-2 trouncing of Southeast
Missouri in the first game of an Ohio Valley Conference series Friday
afternoon at Reagan Field.
The 'Breds scored their 25 runs on 26 hits. It is the second most hits for MSU this season after posting a school-record 28 against North Dakota State. The 25 runs are the most since scoring 26 against Morehead State on March 29, 1997.
The 'Breds (19-12, 2-4 OVC) got on the board in the first inning as Noonan drew a leadoff walk and went to second on a wild pitch. Elliot Frey advanced the runner to third with a deep fly to right field before Daniel Hill drove in the runner with a groundout to first.
MSU did some damage with two outs in the second in pushing across four more runs. With one out, Jonathan Craycraft singled to right field and scored on Matt Phillip's double into the gap in right center. With two outs, Kyle Tiernan walked ahead of Noonan's two-run double to left center. Elliot Frey drove in Noonan with a single into the hole at second that skipped off the second baseman's glove into shallow right field.
SEMO (18-12, 8-2 OVC) got on the board in the third as they took advantage of a pair of MSU errors. With one out, Kody Campbell singled through the right side and advanced to third on a failed pickoff attempt. The run scored when Nick Harris' fly ball was misplayed by the 'Breds infield. MSU minimized the damage as Daniel Miller threw out Harris on an attempted steal and Frey made a diving catch in left field.
The 'Breds got the run back in the fourth as Noonan reached on a fielder's choice before scoring on Frey's RBI double to left center.
MSU broke the game wide open in the fifth as they took advantage of two Redhawk errors to score eight runs. Bryan Propst started the inning with a double into the corner in right field. Jonathan Craycraft followed with a walk before Daniel Miller's bunt was thrown down the left-field line, allowing two runs to score. Phillips followed with a bunt base hit to the pitcher, allowing Miller to score as the throw sailed over the head of the first baseman. Tiernan would then find chalk on a bloop down the left-field line ahead of Noonan's two-run double to left center.
Frey kept the rally alive with a base hit before Jason Laws plated two runs with his first career triple to straight-away center field. Propst's second at-bat of the inning resulted in a sacrifice fly to left center.
The Redhawks pushed across their second unearned run of the game in the seventh as Kenton Parmley doubled to right center with one out before scoring on a fielding error with two outs.

Tiernan later drove in his third run of the inning with a single through the right side before Noonan closed out the scoring with a two run single.
Chris Craycraft (5-2) picked up the victory after allowing two unearned runs on four hits and seven strikeouts over eighth innings. James Leigh (5-1) suffered his first loss of the season after giving up six runs on 10 hits in four innings.
Frey tied a school record as he went 5-for-7 with three hits and three runs scored. Tiernan added four hits, while Noonan, Laws, Propst and Jonathan Craycraft each collected three.Noonan drove in a career-best six, while Laws set a new best with four RBIs.
The two teams will play two games tomorrow afternoon beginning at noon.
