The Murray State women's tennis team closed out the 2009 regular season with a 5-2 victory over Jacksonville State Sunday afternoon at the Purcell Tennis Courts. The victory was the fourth-straight for the Racers and improves the team to 12-7 overall and 6-3 in OVC action.
The Racers won the doubles point for the 15th time in 19 matches as Lynsey Bochenek and Cassidy Cunitz teamed for an 8-1 victory at No. 3. Lyndsay Ottosen and Alexis Webb followed suit with an 8-4 victory at No. 2, while the top duo of Angela McGahee and Anne Pennington won 8-6.
Ottosen completed OVC action with a perfect 6-0 record after defeating Kristen Fuller 6-1, 6-3 at No. 6. Webb also earned a straight-set victory as she won 6-3, 7-5 at No. 4
MSU needed a pair of three-set victories from Cunitz and Bochenekk to close out the match. At No. 3, Cunitz overcame a first-set loss to win a second-set tie break to even the match at one-set a piece. With the match already decided, a pro set was played, with Cunitz prevailing 10-8. Bochenek found herself in a similar position as she dropped a first-set tie break 7-5, before rallying to take the second set 6-4 and the pro set 10-5.
The Racers will open OVC Tournament action Friday morning in Paducah.
