Murray State scored six runs in the top of the seventh inning to erase a one-run deficit and complete the doubleheader sweep over Morehead State with a 9-4 victory at Allen Field.
Daniel Miller stated the inning with a double off the top of the net in right field. With one out, Zach Noonan singled to center field and Elliot Frey tied the game with a single to left field. Wes Cunningham loaded the bases with a solid single to right field. Daniel Hill drove in the eventual game-winning run with a fielder's choice to the right side. With the bases still loaded, JAson Laws' grounder to the right side scored one run and another scored on the error on the first baseman. Jonathan Craycraft plated the fifth run with a double into the corner in right field before Miller drove in a run with a sacrifice fly to right field.
The 'Breds (25-15, 7-5 OVC) used a two-out rally in the fourth inning to push across two runs. Hill started the rally with a single up the middle and Laws followed with a two-run homer to right field, the third-straight game in which he has gone deep.
The Eagles (14-24, 7-9 OVC) took advantage of a pair of 'Breds miscues in the field to push across two unearned runs in the home-half of the fourth. A pair of base hits and a fielding error put runners on the corners with no outs. A double-play ball was bobbled up the middle putting runners on first and second and a run in. A single to center by Luke Bainer with two outs drove in the second run.
MOR gained the lead in the fifth as a base hit scored ahead of Drew Lee's two-run home run to left field.
MUR got one run back in the sixth as Hill hit a solo shot to left field, his team-leading 13th on the season.
Daniel Calhoun (9-1) picked up the victory as he allowed four runs, two earned, on nine hits and four strikeouts in his seventh complete game of the season. He remains just one win off the national lead of 10 held by AJ Morris (Kansas State) and Mike Leake (Arizona State). Tyler Bess (4-4) took the loss after surrendering eight runs, seven earned, on 11 hits over 6.1 innings.
Craycraft led the attack with three hits, while Laws collected two hits and drove in three. Hill added two hits, two RBIs and scored two runs.
The two teams close out the three-game series tomorrow afternoon at 12 p.m. central.
