?Breds Take Fifth-Straight OVC Series

The Murray State baseball team won its fifth-straight Ohio Valley Conference series as the ?Breds scored early and often in defeating UT Martin 13-4 to take the rubber game of the three-game series. The victory marked the first 30-win season since 1999.
The ?Breds (30-17-1, 11-7-1 OVC)) came out swinging as Zach Noonan singled up the middle to start the game and went to second on Elliot Frey's bloop single to right. With one out, Daniel Hill delivered an RBI double off the wall in center field and Jason Laws followed with an RBI groundout to second.
Kyle Tiernan added to the lead in the second as he hit a solo home run to right center with two outs, his third of the season.
MSU added another run in the third as Hill hit a towering solo shot to left field, his team-leading 14th of the season.
The ?Breds added another run in the fourth as Daniel Miller singled thorugh the left side and went to third on Tyloer Owen's double to right center. Noonan drove in Miller from third with a groundout into the hole at short.
The Skyhawks (17-29, 6-15 OVC)) got a run back in the fourth as Cody Terry doubled down the left-field line and later scored on a groundout to short off the bat of Mark Hartsfield.
MSU got back in the scoring column in the sixth as Miller singled through the left side and went to third on a groundout and a wild pitch before scoring on a passed ball.
UTM added their second run of the game in the sixth as Kevin Holt tripled to left center and scored on Terry's sacrifice fly to center field.
The ?Breds added two more runs in the seventh as Propst started a one-out rally with an infield single and went to second when Hill was hit by a pitch. Laws followed with an RBI single up the middle before Miller plated another run with a double down the left-field line.
The Skyhawks got two runs in the eighth as they loaded the bases with no outs. A 4-6-3 double play scored the first run, while a bunt base hit plated the second.
MSU put the game away in the ninth as they pushed across five more runs. Propst, Hill and Laws started the inning with three-straight singles to load the bases. Jonathan Craycraft drew a bases loaded walk ahead of Owen's sacrifice fly to left field. Tiernan drove in two runs with a triple to center field and Noonan closed out the scoring with an RBI double to center field.
Marc Harmon (3-2) picked up the victory after allowing two runs on five hits and three strikeouts over six innings. Tanner Hensley (4-5) took the loss after giving up four runs on seven hits in 2.2 innings.
The ?Breds return to the diamond May 12 as they travel to take on Arkansas State. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. in Jonesboro, Ark.
