
'Breds Roll to 10-7 Victory in Series Opener

Murray State four runs in each of the first two innings and never
looked back in defeating Tennessee Tech, 10-7, in the first game of a
three-game Ohio Valley Conference series Saturday afternoon at Reagan
Field.
The 'Breds (27-16, 8-6 OVC) got on the board in the first as Zach Noonan reached on a fielding error and went to third on Elliot Frey's single to right center. Wes Cunningham drove in Noonan with a sacrifice fly to center field. An error on the play moved Frey to third, where he would score on Daniel Hill's grounder to short that was thrown into the 'Breds dugout. With two outs, Jonathan Craycraft drew a walk ahead of Tyler Owen's double to right field. Daniel Miller walked to load the bases and Kyle Tiernan drove in the fourth run of the inning with a high-chopping infield single over the pitcher's mound.
The MSU offense was back at it in the second as Frey was hit by a pitch and went to third on Cunningham's double down the right-field line. Hill drove in both runners with a double into the gap in left center before scoring on Jonathan Craycraft's single through the left side. Owen drove in his second run of the with his second double on a chopper down the third-base line.
TTU (22-19, 7-10 OVC) got on the board in the third as Heath Cheverton singled up the middle and went to third on a stolen base and throwing error. Chad Hayes drove in the run with another single up the middle.
The Golden Eagels got two more runs in the fifth as Alex Henry was hit by a pitch and went to second on Casanova Donaldson's single up the middle. After a groundout advanced both runners, Ben Burgess plated both with a single to right field.
MSU got one run back in the fifth as Frey continued to swing a hot bat with a single through the left side. After stealing second, Frey scored with two outs on Jason Laws' single up the middle.
TTU added two more runs in the seventh as a passed ball help set up A.J. Kirby-Jones two-run single up the middle.
The 'Breds added their 10th run of the game in the seventh as Bryan Propst doubled to straight-away center field and went to third on Frey's single that squirted through the right side. Cunningham plated Propst with a sacrifice bunt back to the mound.
The Golden Eagles tried to make things interesting in the ninth as a base hit and a walk came in to score on Kirby-Jones' double to deep left center. TTU looked to draw closer, but Hill had other ideas as he dove to make a catch to end the game.
Chris Craycraft (8-2) picked up the victory after allowing five runs, four earned, on seven hits and six strikeouts in seven innings. Michael Alcorn (1-3) took hte loss after surrendering eight runs, four earned, on seven hits in 1.1 innings.
The two teams play the second game of the doubleheader about 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first game.
