Women's Tennis Battles Tough Competition at Memphis Collegiate Invitational

The Murray State women's tennis team battled some tough competition over the weekend at the Memphis Collegiate Invitaional.
Senior Angela McGahee went 2-1 in singles matches as she defeated Tulane's Mariam Kurdadze 7-6 (4-0), 1-6, 11-9 and Memphis' Ashley Murdock 6-7 (0-4), 6-4, 10-7. Fellow senior, Lyndsay Ottosen defeated Belmont's Abigail Hogan in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2.
Junior Alexis Webb earned her lone victory of the weekend as she defeated Tulane's Emma Helisten in straight sets 6-2, 6-2. Cassidy Cunitz defeated OVC opponent, Alice Laing of UT Martin, 6-4, 6-4, while freshman Ashley Canty defeated UT Martin's Belisa de Brito 6-0, 6-0.
In doubles action, Cunitz and Ottosen teamed up for a 9-7 victory against a duo from Belmont, while Canty and Webb picked up an 8-6 victory against a duo from Belmont as well.
Overall, the Racers went 6-12 in singles matches and 2-7 in doubles matches over the weekend.
The Racers return to the court Friday, Sept. 25, as they participate in the Middle Tennessee State Invitational at the Buck Bouldin Tennis Complex in Murfreesboro, Tenn.
